Community get-together promised for Wick

Wick Week will kick off on Monday and more than 40 activities and events, many of them free, are planned at a number of locations. The week is funded by Littlehampton Town Council, and Dr James Walsh, chairman of the council's community resources committee, said: "The festival has been a key and massively popular part of the town's summer programme for many years, and the town council wishes to support its continuation as an event that appeals to all ages." Wick Idol, the chance to let talents shine, will be held at the Wickbourne Centre, Clun Road, on Thursday at 7pm, and the ever-popular Wick Week Quiz Night will take place at the same venue on Friday, from 7pm. Sheep, piglets and a giant tortoise will be at the centre on Friday afternoon, when a mobile farm will visit for the under 6s, and a week of free sports, games and creativity will be on offer, for 11-17 year-olds, at the Keystone Centre, every weekday from 3-5pm. There's also something for the older people, with Wick Ticks, hosted by the Arun Neighbourhood Network, which will offer demonstrations, information and health checks, as well as a session on how to use your mobile phone, and the 50up Club will hold an afternoon of bingo on Thursday at Wick Hall, between 1pm and 4pm. A spokeswoman added that without the support of so many community organisations pulling together, such as the Wick Information Centre, Project 82, LA:UK, Arun Community Church, The Keystone Centre, Inspire Leisure, the Littlehampton Children and Family Centre, Wick Football Club and the Arun Neighbourhood Network, the week would not be possible.
