Last week Kat Banyard, well known campaigner against sexual inequality and author of '˜Pimp State' and '˜The Equality Illusion', ran a workshop for Collyer's students, including members of Feminist Society and A Level politics students, discussing the issues of gender inequality and what they can do about it.

Collyer’s Equality and Diversity Officer, Noami Lask, helped co-ordinate the event. She said: “Kat gave students the hard hitting facts about how gender equality affects women in the UK today and explained why the feminist movement is as important today as ever.”

Kat Banyard is the co-founder and director of UK Feminista, a UK feminist pressure group which supports grassroots feminist campaigns and works with teachers and students to tackle sexism in schools. She was keen to visit Collyer’s and see the positive work of the college’s active feminist society, who meet regularly to discuss issues related to gender equality.

Noami Lask added: “Our students worked in groups to think of all the different gender stereotypes they see around them, and many shared their own experiences.

“The passion from the Collyer’s students was evident throughout the workshop as they shared their experiences and ideas for activism. The session was informative and incredibly empowering and I am excited to see what the students do with their campaign suggestions. The workshop ended with students identifying the changes they wanted to make and designing their own campaign ideas.”
