Eastbourne not getting enough Covid cash

The local authority was allocated an extra £473,866 last week in the latest round of government funding to help councils in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Eastbourne and Willingdon MP Caroline Ansell welcomed the further government funding for the town’s borough council saying the town has now so far received £1,755 million in extra covid funding in four tranches.

Hide AdBut Eastbourne council leader David Tutt said it wasn’t enough to meet the £10m shortfall the authority is facing.
He said, “This latest instalment is very welcome, but still falls a long way short of the government promise at the start of the pandemic to fully reimburse councils for all costs and loss of income.
“We have been making the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government aware of these costs on a monthly basis and hope that much more financial support will be forthcoming.”
