A SOUTHWICK Cricket Club player has died after his car crashed into a field alongside the A27.
The driver from Hove has not yet been officially named by police but friends locally said his name was Jamie Trott.

He had been driving a purple BMW 316 on the A27 dual carriageway just east of the Southwick Tunnel, near Shoreham, on Sunday evening (August 24) when it flipped over, veered up a roadside bank and crashed in the field.

The 21-year-old was trapped in the car and had to be cut free by firefighters before he could be flown to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton by helicopter.

He died at the hospital on Monday (August 25) after fighting for his life during the night.

A front seat passenger in the car escaped from the accident with only minor injuries.

They were able to crawl free from the wrecked car and comforted the victim until emergency services arrived on the scene.

The passenger was also taken to the hospital for checks.

The A27 was closed eastbound until around 2am on Monday (August 25).

Sussex Police is appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or who saw a purple BMW 316 on the A27 around 8.15pm on Sunday to call them on 0845 6070999.

Tributes

Jamie was in my class at Hangleton Junior School when he was 11.

I shall always remember his cheeky ways and even cheekier smile!

What a loss at such a young age.

I remember he liked lizards and was hoping for one if he got good SATs results that year - I believe he did.
