East Preston set up a date at Seaford in the semi-finals of the 2008-09 Brighton Charity Cup competition on Wednesday after beating Southwick 1-0 on Tuesday night, thanks to Lee Farrell's 36th-minute goal. After Chichester were kicked out for fielding an ineligible player last season, the teams they beat will play off to try to reach the final, where they will face Shoreham. Littlehampton lost 1-0 to an 88th-minute goal at Oakwood on Saturday, just moments after they had a penalty appeal waved away. Golds felt Matt Russell was pushed to the ground from a corner but play continued, Oakwood broke and got the only goal. Littlehampton still could have got a point but Russell failed to convert from inside the six-yard box and Danny Hand missed a one-on-one. Golds joint boss John Suter said: "The result was disappointing and we probably deserved a draw. But, on another day, with the chances we had, we'd have won 4-1." Clymping player-manager Dominic Di Paola said: "It was a fair result. We did okay but I think we need to play better than that to do well this season. We competed well but we're going to come up against better sides this season, so we will need to find last season's form." A disputed penalty four minutes from time meant Rustington went down 3-2 at Southwick in Division 2. James Wotherspoon fired Wickers into an early lead but Phil Churchill turned home Steve Kirkham's cross to equalise on 11 minutes. James Bennett headed home Joey Cumber's free kick to give Blues the lead on 20 minutes but Wotherspoon drew Southwick level deep into first-half stoppage-time. Wickers then dominated proceedings in the second period, without creating any clear openings, but they took all three points from the penalty spot on 86 minutes. A shot was deemed to hit Ryan Morten's arm and former Blues striker Ryan Walton scored from the spot. Blues boss Pete Matthews said: "Overall, I think we deserved a draw, so to lose like that was very frustrating." He said: "With the squad we've now got, we really want to push for promotion, as we've been in this league for two years now." Bourne's under-15 Littlehampton Devils team, who won their Sussex League last year, had an outstanding summer, too, and won four six-a-side tournaments. The FA Cup starts on Friday evening when Littlehampton host Combined Counties League Cobham (7.45pm).
