An animal-lover came to the rescue of a newly-hatched family of ducks and their mother by rearing them in his garden.
Michael Cooper took the birds under his wing after his mother-in-law found them in her garden at St Wilfrids Close, Selsey, when the ducklings were just a day old.
He took the 11 ducks and their mother back to his home in East Bank where he looked after them in his aviary.
For the next seven weeks they were neighbours to a number of rescued pigeons with an assortment of abnormalities Mr and Mrs Cooper have been looking after, too.
His wife Alison said: "Michael works very hard as a gardener, but always came home at lunchtimes to check on them and change their water.
"He should feel proud of himself for what he achieved."
Sadly one of the ducks had to be put down a week before it was going to be released after suffering spinal injuries caused by being trampled on by the other ducks.
They are now living happily among other wildlife at the pond in Mill Lane Fishbourne.
