If convicted, the owner of the former Springwood Nursery, in Scaynes Hill, could face a fine of up to £20,000. At a meeting of the planning committee on Thursday (October 8), members were told that permission for the house was refused in April 2019 but work carried on anyway. A Stop Notice was issued in July this year. The committee was shown pictures of the work’s progress and voted unanimously to start legal action. Phillip Coote (Con, Crawley Down & Turners Hill) said: “These people are just laughing at us and that annoys me.” A report to the committee said an Enforcement Notice had also been issued, calling for the building to be demolished. The landowner appealed that notice and it is not likely to be heard until next year. Karen Dunn , Local Democracy Reporting Service
